Hip-hop star J. Cole is offering up a musical tribute to the young man at the center of a divided community in Ferguson, Missouri.

Cole has released a new song, titled "Be Free," in response to the police crackdown and protests following the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown last Saturday. He also wrote on his website that he was "tired of being desensitized to the murder of black men," adding, "We become numb. I became numb. But not anymore. That coulda been me, easily. It could have been my best friend." As of Monday morning, Cole's "Be Free" had already received nearly than 700 thousand plays on Soundcloud.

In response to the protests that have rocked Ferguson all week, police there released a surveillance video Friday that appears to show Michael Brown robbing a store of cigars before he was shot by police later that day. Police also released the name of the officer who shot Brown, Darren Wilson.
